One-week training on EU Competition Law

Held by European Profiles (http://www.europeanprofiles.gr) based in Athens, Greece (Director Dr. Dimitrios Bakolas).

This event was the first one out of the three-year TACIS Project devoted on approximation of Ukrainian legislation to EU standards. The main aim of the Project is to train law professors to get familiar of Ukrainian officials and civil servants with European legislation.

The first presenter Nicolaos KAKOURIS made a presentaion on EU Internal Market Policy. Prof. Vincenzo SCORDAMAGLIA who has 30 years of experience working with European Commission lectured on EU Competition Law. The last speaker was the famous in Europe lecturer from Free University of Brussels Prof. Thierry BOURGOIGNIE made a presentation on Unfair Practise Regulation in European Union. Prof. Bourgoignie serves as the team leader for the Project.

The main target of the training was an introduction to the Cross-border Insolvency regulation on International arena.

During the presentation a full description of the peculiarities of the main bankruptcy regimes in chosen countries in Europe and North America was given and the main Conventions in this sphere have been analyzed. Among those International documents are Istanbul Convention of 1990 and European Convention of Cross-border Insolvencies of 1995.

The main target of the training was to present the latest changes in Ukrainian legistation in the sphere of Promissory Notes / Bills of Exchanges after the joining Geneva Convention of 1930.

The presentation has been begun from the description of the nature of notes and bills of exchanges. The main part of the training was devoted to practical issues on implementation of such financial instruments in Ukraine and the peculiarities of their use in this country.
